Vintage Update: 2016 Mosaic
Jeff’s Corner
Kath and I were enjoying some porch therapy the other evening and I pulled the cork on a 2016 Mosaic and Great Googly Moogly, it was drinking great! So, I thought why not make some notes and share them with all of you.
The color is a dense deep garnet with a hint of ruby on the rim. The nose was intense with generous amounts of oak layered with black cherry, cassis, and ripe blueberry. The primary fruit aromas are complimented by rich dark cocoa, vanilla, cinnamon, and black licorice.
The palate is elegant and graceful from start to finish. Silky smooth tannins are well-integrated with firm acidity supporting the dark fruit flavors. The clean, seductive finish assures another taste is on the way. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot.
Just for fun, let’s see what I had to say about this outstanding wine in Jeff’s Corner dated May 24, 2018. Please keep in mind, I never read my old notes on a wine until I’ve written my new ones. I was either redundant or consistent this time around. Here we go:
“The color is a well-extracted garnet/ruby with a vibrant rim and a rich intensity in the bowl that begs for further exploration. There is indeed a complex mosaic of enticing aromas and flavors, with blackberry, black cherry, cassis, cinnamon, dark cocoa, and well-oiled leather weaving a delicate tapestry.
The palate is seamless from front to back, with lush fruit and spice complimenting well-integrated sweet tannins and playful acidity. There is a lovely round, creamy mouthfeel that contributes to a refined, lingering finish.”
I feel the ‘’16 Mosaic is drinking exceptionally well right now, and would do well with about an hour decanting to open up the aroma and fruit. If you can be patient, another two years in the bottle might be very rewarding. Either way, enjoy…
